The Brooklyn Children’s Museum Expansion was the first in the nation LEED certified museum. The project was a 53,000 sq. ft. two-story expansion to the existing museum. The museum hired Rafael Vinoly Architects to design the building’s expansion to give the museum greater street presence. The new space improved access to the roof of the existing facility. The expansion created a new cafeteria, new gift shop, new library, substantially more exhibit space and added administrative space.
