Built for the Federal General Services Administration was the new construction of 860,000 sq. ft. courthouse building, and 250,000 sq. ft. parking garage on 62 acres of property in Western Suffolk County. The courthouse is an 11-story building, plus penthouse, with 22 wood paneled courtrooms and judges chambers connected by a grand hall of granite wall and floor finishes. The parking garage is a two level precast concrete parking structure. Richard Meier & Partners Architects LLP was commissioned by the US Federal Government to design the courthouse after winning a prestigious international design contest. The hallmark of the courthouse design is the intricate metal clad façade enclosing the courtrooms that are on either side of an 8-story atrium whose walkway flows into a 210 ft tall conical rotunda
The Brooklyn Children’s Museum in Brooklyn, NY
The construction of a new 53,000 sq. ft. two-story expansion to the existing active Museum. The first in the New York City LEED accredited Museum. The New York City Department of Design and Construction and the Museum hired Rafael Vinoly Architects to design a building’s expansion to give the museum greater street presence. The new space provided better access to the roof of the existing facility; provided a cafeteria, new gift shop, new library, additional exhibit and administrative spaces.
Creedmoor Psychiatric Center Project in Queens, NY
Working for the New York State Dormitory Authority the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center Project in Queens, NY was a complete renovation of 600,000-SF, 21 story existing psychiatric hospital. Multi-phased renovations, performed while hospital remained operational, required a completely new interior layout, including patient rooms, isolation rooms, recreation rooms, dining rooms, offices treatment and exam rooms and exterior activity areas. In addition to the new layout, it also required new windows, new mechanical and electrical systems, including forced-air heating and air-conditioning, sprinkler, fire alarm, emergency generator, nurse call, CCTV, intercom, public address and intrusion alarm systems.
Kingsboro Psychiatric Center, Brooklyn, NY
Working for the New York State Dormitory Authority, the Kingsboro Psychiatric Center, Brooklyn, NY Project was master planned redevelopment of the century old campus that involved a complete renovation of an existing Building 2, addition of chiller plant, and campus drainage rehabilitation. A mentoring program for minority and women owned small businesses to perform various small scale campus construction rehabilitation projects. The Building 2 renovation provided for a completely new interior layout; including patient rooms, isolation rooms, recreation rooms, dining rooms offices treatment and exam rooms am exterior activity areas. The new centralized chiller plant was added onto the existing central power plant. The chiller addition housed two 250-ton cooling units that attached to pour-in-place cooling tower and upgraded electrical service.
